One of my clients came to me after struggling with closed comedones and breakouts for several years. Her acne journey had actually started back in college, something she had never experienced growing up. As soon as it began, she tried everything she could. While living in Sudbury, she even visited a clinic that specialised in acne, but the treatments mainly consisted of monthly extractions, which were painful and didn’t provide lasting results.
She later explored a more internal approach by working with a Naturopath, which helped improve some aspects of her overall health, but her acne still persisted. Eventually, she turned to Accutane. While it did help clear her skin, the treatment was difficult due to the side effects and strict precautions. After about a year, she began experiencing issues with her eyes. Although her skin improved at first, the acne eventually returned, leaving her feeling discouraged after years of trying different solutions.
When she started working with me in 2024, she was still dealing with closed comedones and breakouts, and like many clients, she had learned to hide her skin and lacked confidence. At the beginning, I focused on targeted treatments to manage her skin, and we did see some improvement.
However, after completing Hayley’s course, my approach evolved. I developed a deeper understanding that food is truly medicine, that it’s not just what you eat, but what your body can properly digest and tolerate.
Together, we took a step back and looked more closely at her lifestyle and nutrition. I encouraged her to start tracking her food and that’s when patterns began to emerge. We discovered that dairy was a major trigger for her acne. Interestingly, she had previously noticed similar sensitivities after having her first child, who reacted poorly to dairy, but she hadn’t yet connected that it could also be affecting her own body.
As we continued, we also identified that consuming too many eggs would trigger similar breakouts. With this new awareness, she began adjusting her diet focusing on balance rather than restriction and learning how to manage her triggers in a sustainable way.
This wasn’t an overnight transformation. It required consistency, patience and commitment. But over time, her skin began to heal, not just on the surface, but from within.
Now, two years later, her skin is where she always wanted it to be. She feels confident without makeup, understands her triggers and is able to maintain her results through a balanced lifestyle.
Seeing her journey has been incredibly rewarding. Not only has her skin improved beautifully, but she has regained confidence and feels truly comfortable in her own skin, which is always the ultimate goal.
