OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that clear, acne free, glowing skin is the result of balanced internal health.

Acknowledging that the skin being our largest organ is connected to each bodily system holistically.

That no external skincare products or treatments can independently treat acne without out treating the bodies internal root cause(s).

Our philosophy, Glow from the inside out is how we educate, support and nourish our ‘Acne to g l o w’ students.

Our CEO and founder Hayley, directly focuses on the five key body system to treat the root cause of acne.

Our skin is the bodies biggest organ of elimination and detoxification, so let’s honour that as we understand that our skin is the outside finishing layer to our very own palace – us.

It is our philosophy that beauty comes from within for all human beings and here at the Skincare Academy we directly focus on:

1. Endocrine (Hormone) Health.

2. Liver Health (Detoxification).

3. Gastrointestinal (Gut) Health.

4. Nervous System Support.

5. Lymphatic Support.

1. HORMONE HEALTH

Adult hormonal acne is driven by increased androgen levels and imbalanced hormone levels. This leads to skin inflammation, excess sebum production and potentially a production of acne causing bacteria called ‘Propionibacterium acnes’.

2. LIVER HEALTH

Our skin is our third kidney and its best friend is our liver. The liver is responsible for detoxification and sorting out any excess hormones (androgens, oestrogen).

The liver’s biological function includes the storage, filtration, production and metabolism of essentially all chemicals that come through the body, because of the liver’s integral role, when the liver’s function is compromised the body can be adversely affected.

3. GUT HEALTH

The gut being home to trillions off microorganism and over 1,000 different species of bacteria is the core of most health issues, acne being one of them.

The gut microbiome is linked to our skin microbiome as particular short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) from the fibre fermentation process in the gut can promote certain skin microbes that influence immune defence and regulate skin inflammation (1).

Intestinal dysbiosis (leaky gut) is a state of microbial imbalance which can negatively impact the skin microbiome, contributing to acne. Although acne is caused by many factors from the outlined five key body systems and additional environmental/lifestyle factors, the gut microbiome can play a key role in the progression and severity of acne. The emotional stress and frustration that mostly accompanies acne can impair the gut microbiome, most notably Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species. Psychological stress can also cause intestinal microbes to produce neurotransmitters that can enter the bloodstream the intestinal barrier, resulting in systemic inflammation also (2,3).

4. NERVOUS SYSTEM

Stress directly affects our skin through inflammation and cortisol, which adds the the vicious cycle of the body then producing more sebum making your skin more oily. Not only does stress, physical and emotional stress hinder our innate ability to control out sebum (oil) levels, stress restricts our ability to heal, potentially leading to more scarring and pigmentation after cleaning your active acne.

5. LYMPHATIC SUPPORT

Our lymphatic system is absolutely amazing and often forgotten about when treating acne. If your lymphatic system is not functioning adequately to transport progesterone, then this may contribute to ‘oestrogen dominance’ and acne. When not supported our lymphatic system can become stagnant and congested, usually resulting in lower jawline, higger neck acne where there is an accumulation of many lymph nodes.
